FORT DEFIANCE-The Mountaineer Grapplers finished 9th out of a field of 16 teams at the Indian Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 & 9. Individual placewinners included Josh Bryan (171), runner-up; Bob Williamson (189), 4th; R.D. Williamson (215), 4th; and Devin Davis (285), 4th. Other strong performers at the event were Marshall Talkington (103), Eddie Cross (119), Aaron Hartsfield (152), and Josh Paxton (171); all of whom finished tied for 5th. Josh Bryan had the most takedowns on the weekend (8), while Devin Davis and Bob Williamson had the most wins for the event (4).

Despite being a mere week into the season, the Mountaineer grapplers gave a solid performance on Monday, Nov. 20. Against Spotswood(AA), the Mountaineers won 11 matches, and lost 3. Vess, Craft, Montgomery, Black, Moss, Burris, Hartsfield, Lipes, Eroh, Bob Williamson, and Tingler won by pin. Against Wilson Memorial (A), Alleghany won 12 matches and lost 2. Talkington and Vess both won 2 matches by pinfall, while Black, Aldridge, Montgomery, Rogers, Bryan, R.D. Williamson and Davis also earned pins. The Mountaineers next action will place the varsity wrestlers in the Indian Invitational at Fort Defiance on Dec. 8 & 9.
