Good luck to all wrestlers and to all our coaches. Thanks to all coaches for your time invested in our kids so far this season. Let's use this first tournament as a valuable learning experience that we can put to use for the rest of the season. Especially in dealing with any or all of the new freestyle rules that could be put into effect this weekend. Again, good luck with your matches; but, most of all, learn alot!

Jesus Arellano, 95 lbs., and Gregory Castro, 122 lbs., will be wrestling in the 2006 California Jr. High State Wrestling Championships in Selma, Ca on Saturday, March 18, 2006. Both boys are wrestling for the Cecil Avenue Middle School Wrestling Team for this 2005-06 collegiate wrestling season. Both wrestlers competed in the 38th Annual Northern California Tournament of Champions Wrestling Tournament this past Saturday, March 11. Gregory placed 7th in his weight group to qualify for the Jr. High State Tournament. His losses were to San Jose's Dominic Kastl who was the tournament champion and to Clovis' Dylan Beck who went on to place 4th. Among Gregory's four victories at the tournament was a pin against the eventual 6th place finisher Madera's Jesus Orozco. Jesus finished the tournament with a 2-2 record with pins against a wrestler from Willows and one from Madera. Jesus' two defeats were both in overtime, one to Shawn Porter of Elk Grove 4 to 2, and one to Jacob Mertz of San Jose 6 to 4. Jesus qualified to compete in the Jr. High State Tournament as an alternate.

On Thursday, March 16, there will be an important meeting for the parents of all the youth wrestlers who are signed up to wrestle this 2006 season. The meeting will be at 6:30pm outside of the Delano High wrestling room. So, be there to receive important information about this upcoming freestyle wrestling season.
