Back to the drawing board for the Cyclones!
Well folks, as you might have noticed, our website has not been updated in quite a while. I have to admit that after a less than spectacular start, I was too disappointed to do any updates. The promise of spring and a group of players who were way to talented to be losing, crossed paths with the cold hard reality of growing pains. We lost 3 players, Mark Jr. Garcia, Mark Chavez and Darrin Cain. We had every reason to believe that this team may not survive it's infancy. After losing all but 1 game in the first 3 tournaments, it was time to make some important decisions. The coaches put their heads together to see if anyone could think of a way to salvage our future with the Cyclones. As fate would have it, when you are dealing with coaches who refuse to give up, and a group of kids who are capable of beating anyone at any given time, we have decided to go to work harder than ever. The coaches have agreed to enlist the help of a professional high school baseball coach. On Thursday night, we held our first batting clinic with coach Kerry Cox. Coach Cox comes to us with outstanding coaching credentials. Coach Cox took Channelview High to the state championship 2 years ago. As coaches, we can admit that there is too much to know at this level for us to remain competitive unless we are willing to learn more than we know now. We will be providing regular clinics from coach Cox to help improve our batting, pitching, fielding and equally important, coaching. The players are not being asked to contribute to these classes financially. The coaches will cover the expense of the classes, but the players will be held accountable for doing their best to learn and use the techniques to make themselves better ballplayers. I am truly excited that we have made the commitment to the players and their families, to make this team into the team that we all know it can be. There are times when you have to dig deep within yourself to find who you really are, and what you are willing to do to become who you really WANT to be. This team will not fade quietly into the night, it will perservere and fight and work to become the team we all know it can be. Parents and players, please don't give up because we feel that we are on a great course and only success can come from our commitment!
Highlands Cyclones 11U AA are coming straight at you!
Baseball Player's Prayer
God grant me wisdom,
to tell a strike from a ball,
to know where to throw
and never to fall.
Keep me always in the base line,
running straight and true
and I'll look for your sign,
to stretch one into two.
God give me vision,
to see every pitch,
so if a player needs help,
then I will see which.
Let me always hustle,
so I'll be at my best
and take pride in myself,
in sports and the rest.
God be my strength,
when I throw the ball
when I'm far from home plate,
or against a wall.
So I never miss a base,
please guide my feet,
bring me home safely,
so my job is complete.
When I help younger players,
let me always give praise,
so they'll see you in me,
in all of my ways.
God please guide our coach,
to be fair and smart,
to teach us to be good,
let it come from his heart.
Let me take a loss,
just as well as a win,
to do any less,
is surely a sin.
As long as I can play,
let me make my parents proud,
as proud as I am,
when they yell MY name out loud.
However my games end,
let me always have fun
and if Heaven has All Stars,
I want to be one.
When my games here are over
and my seasons are done,
let me play on your team.
just like your son.
Amen.
