Lakeland goes on attack to defeat Western Wayne

September 6
Lakeland used a steady attack and some physical play to defeat Western Wayne 5-1 in junior high soccer action. A day after an admittedly sub-par performance against Deleware Valley-Dingman, Lakeland came with an obvious desire to win, and they did so in convincing fashion. Eight minutes into the game, JIM GERMAIN found KYLE COSGROVE on a long throw-in and COSGROVE buried the ball in the bacck of the net. Five minutes later, TYLER KUBILUS's shot rebounded off the goalkeeper and NATE WNUK was there to poke it in to give Lakeland an early 2-0 lead. A minute and a half later, TYLER KUBILUS scored an unassisted goal, giving the Chiefs a huge 3-0 lead, and all the momentum going their way. Lakeland started the second half the same they played the first half, getting a goal from FRANCESCA ROMANYSHYN within the first 2 minutes of the half. Her goal came off a NATE WNUK assist. Five and a half minutes later, TYLER KUBILUS added his second goal of the game on a picture-perfect break-away, assisted by FRANCESCA ROMANYSHYN. Lakeland had an insurmountable 5-0 lead, and managed to put all 24 players on their roster into the game. Western Wayne got a goal from #29 (Name Unavailable) with 46 seconds left in the contest. BEN JOHNSON made 8 saves in goal, seeming to always be in the right place at the right time.
KYLE COSGROVE scored a goal early in the second half of the "B" game to bring Lakeland to a tie with Western Wayne.
