Morris County Mavericks Home Page

Welcome to the home of the Morris County Mavericks, one of the premier AAU organizations in Northwest New Jersey. The organization was founded in 2001.

History
The Morris County Mavericks organization was started in 2001. In 2004, Patrick Haduck took over and has started to build one of the elite programs in Northwest Jersey. He wanted competitive basketball opportunities for his sons as well as competing against some of the top players in the tri-state area. The first two years there was only one team. The third year, Pat formed a team himself and brought it into the Mavericks Program. Since that time, another team was added in 2005 and we'll be looking to continue to add more going forward. As the Mavericks name and reputation becomes more known, we will be attracting more players and expect to grow the program significantly over the next few years. In 2005, both the U13 and U14 boys team won the Spring Jam Invitational as well as several other tournaments. Both teams then went onto compete in a national tournament in Atlanta, Georgia.

Club Mission
Our mission is to provide an exceptional basketball experience for players to compete against the best basketball teams in the tri-state area.

The Morris County Mavericks provide an opportunity for motivated young boys to play basketball at a highly competitive level. We are drawing some of the best players from Morris County as well as surrounding counties.

The organization is run by volunteers and is attracting excellent coaches as well as excellent players.

Teams
The teams are selected from tryouts that take place in late February and early March, mostly after the high school season has completed. All players are provided an equal opportunity to exhibit their skills during several tryouts. The coaches as well as independent evaluators have complete control over who is chosen for each team. Players are recognized for their ability to follow specific instructions, run drills, and pick up plays. There is also significant attention placed on speed, athletic ability, shooting and attitude that they exhibit during the tryouts.

Practices will start in mid March, with games starting in early April and continuing thru June. If the team qualifies for a national tournament, the team will continue to practice and participate in tournaments thru the end of the national tournament. We usually practice 2 times per week and games are every weekend, except for Easter. Paid trainers are also part of the program. We usually have 2-3 tournaments that require out-of-state travel.

Training
We have the players go through training sessions with Nick Johnson. Nick has trained the likes of Tim Thomas and Vince Carter, and competed against Magic Johnson, Danny Ainge, Bill Cartwright, Albert King and many other former pro basketball players. Nick attended the University of Rhode Island, was captain of the 1979-80 NCAA tourney team featuring Sly Wiliiams, and elected to the all Passaic County and NJIA All Star Teams. His sessions are intense and bring about a vision that kids of all ages will take with them for the remainder of their life.

Daryl Smith, D-TRAINED, 4 year letter winner at Rutgers university, will be providing extensive training to teams for the 2006 season. Daryl was a stand-out at Rutgers and played professionally in Italy and Croatia. D-TRAINED basketball strength and conditioning is designed to provide optimal cardiovascular function, muscular strength and endurance, increased resistance to mental stress and improved overall basketball skills.

Commitment
The coaches volunteer their time to help the team members develop their full potential as basketball players and young men. We expect all players to make a serious commitment of time and effort to the team and the coaches. Team members are expected to come to all practices and games in top physical and mental condition, ready to play. Volunteer opportunities are available for parents to help coordinate team activities, transportation, fundraising, and publicity.

Finances
Fees will vary depending on new players vs returning players. Fees cover tournaments, A.A.U. registration, gym rentals, referee fees, paid trainers, equipment, and uniforms. It does NOT cover expenses for tournaments that require a sleepover.
