Just a few announcements:

• Thursday's practice has been moved to Friday, as we will be attending Montville High School's final home wrestling meet against Windham on Thursday. All wrestlers and their families are encouraged to attend.
  

 

• Registration for this weekends tournament will held tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25th. Please sign the registration form and bring payment tomorrow.

 

• A big THANK YOU to Shelly Concascia for arranging "Tomahawk Wrestling Night at Chili's"!! This Fundraiser for Tomahawk Wrestling will be held on Monday, February 13, from 4pm-9pm, at the Montville Chili's. 10% of the proceeds that night go to Tomahawk Wrestling. Please be sure to bring your 10% Coupon Flyer with you that night in order for our Club to receive the 10%.  Please pick up a packet of Flyers from Mrs. Concascia at the Fair Oaks Gym and pass them out to everyone you know!!

This Thursday 1/19/2012, our Montville Wrestlers will wrestling against Griswold. The following Wrestlers (mostly middle school) will be wrestling (Dual Meet) at Griswold High School, at 5:15pm. Chris Connors,Noah Caskey,Ezra Spreng,Joel Morth,Jacob Plikus,Alex Ganoe,Ian Anderson,Sam Kury,Tommy Simone,Dane Concascia,Mikey Kurasz,Zach Looney,Nick Tibbetts,Tyler Price,Noah Cook,Hunter Driscoll,Austin Concascia,E Diaz,Jake Callaghan,Julio Nieves,Kevin Murtha (no match, sorry kevin).

The following wrestlers will be at the Lisbon Central School at 5:15pm, for a scrimmage. Max and JJ Morse, Luke and Jake Gannotti, Jon Connors, PJ Flynn, Liam Cook, Owen Hall, Alex Sobanko, Micky Wynosky, Jared Plikus, Trey Tschopp, Robert kelley, Josh Anderson.

This is a great opportunity for all wrestlers to get extra mat time and some good matches against good wrestlers. Please arrive at 5:15 and be ready to wrestle at 5:30.

Lately our practices have been very disruptive. The amount of talking and goofing off has got to stop. It is very difficult to teach with these distractions. Our practices are no different than a school classroom that our children attend. We are here to teach and they are here to learn.These distractions would not be tolerated at school and they no longer will be tolerated at our practice.

We are asking the Parents to please talk with their wrestlers about the importance of listening and not talking during practice. Going forward, disruptive wrestlers will be asked to sit outside the Gym in the Hallway until they can behave. We are left with no alternatives. Our practices are 90 minutes, and we want to spend that time wrestling and learning and becoming better wrestlers. Thank You for your help with this matter.

Also, although our Friday Practices are voluntary, we encourage wrestlers to attend, especially our wrestlers that compete on Sundays.

This Thursday's practice (1/5/12) has been moved to Friday because of a Blood Drive being held in the gym on Thursday. The mats will need to be rolled up after practice tonight, so we ask the wrestlers to please stay after practice and help roll up the mats.

Our first tournament of the season is this Sunday in Windham. We are very excited for this season, we should do very well. This tournament is also hosting a NOVICE division which means new, fairly inexperienced wrestlers competing against each other. This would be a great opportunity for our newer wrestlers to experience competing in a tournament with kids at their experience level.

We encourage all the wrestlers to sign up for this tournament at practice tonight. There will be a sign up sheet with a payment envelope in the gym. PARENTS need to fill out the registration sign up sheet and put the check in the envelope in order for your child to be registered.

Once I register our kids for a tournament, our Club is responsible for payment to the Tournament Director of the wrestling event we are competing at, which means there are no refunds if the wrestler does not show up at the tournament ie... sick. This is why the Parents need to fill out the registration form and NOT the kids. Thank You for your Understanding.

If your wrestler plans on competing and does not have a wrestling singlet yet, we will pass those out at Friday's Practice.

We will be holding practice this week 12/20, 12/21, 12/22 as usual. We will be having practice the week after Christmas 12/27,12/28, and 12/29. We will also be holding practice the week after New Years, 1/3,1/4 and 1/5. Practice times as usual 6-7:30pm. Our 1st tournament will be 1/8/2012 in Windham.

I have about 6 singlets that are not accounted for. Please let me know if you have a singlet from last year and the size. I have heard from some parents, but please double check.

Singlets will be handed out tomorrow to those wrestlers that will need one for this weekends tournament. Parents will be required to sign for these singlets!

I am looking to account for ALL of our Wrestling Singlets. If you have a wrestling singlet, PLEASE respond back to this e-mail. Our first Tournament is this Sunday, December 18th, and we need to hand out singlets to this years wrestlers. Some wrestlers have moved on to the High School and some of last years wrestlers did not return this year, so I am trying to get an accurate count. The majority of the singlets are brand new and the Club spent a significant amount of money on these singlets, so please help me account for them all.

I would like to remind everyone that we will not have practice tomorrow (Wednesday 12/14) as we will be attending the Montville High School Wrestling meet at Montville High School at 6:00pm. We Encourage all wrestlers to attend and watch some good wrestling and support the High School Wrestlers. It will also provide a good learning experience for all. Wednesday's practice will be moved to Friday (12/16) from 6-7:30.

The Montville Youth Wrestling Season is upon us, with a few changes for this season that we are very excited about. First, our name has changed to "Tomahawk Wrestling Club"  and Second, we have a new Head Coach who's name is Allyn Quibble, a former All-State Champion Wrestler at Ledyard.

This is the schedule for this season:

BEGINNERS: TUESDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHTS, 6:00-7:30PM, STARTING NOVEMBER 29, AT FAIR OAKS SCHOOL GYM.

ADVANCED: TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHTS, 6:00-7:30PM, STARTING THIS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH. This Wednesday's practice ONLY, will be at MONTVILLE HIGH SCHOOL. Thursday's practice will be at FAIR OAKS SCHOOL GYM ( ALL FUTURE PRACTICES WILL BE HELD AT FAIR OAKS).

As we progress towards Tournaments, optional FRIDAY Practices will be scheduled by Coach Quibble. 

Here are some very important reminders:

• Practice starts at 6:00 SHARP! Please arrive early enough to be ready and on the mats at 6:00.
• Wrestling Shoes are to be worn on the mats ONLY! Do not wear your wrestling shoes to practice, change when you arrive.
• Head gear to be worn when on the mats.
• Shorts, tee-shirts, sweatpants (NO ZIPPERS)can be worn to practice.
• Bring a water bottle
• Mouth guards must be worn if you have braces.

Registration is being taken at Montville Park and Rec and we will also have Sign-Up sheets at Wednesday's Practice.

On behalf of all the Coaches, we would like to Thank Everyone for their Generosity towards the Coaches Gifts. This was appreciated very much! Also, we would like to Thank all involved in making The Banquet such a Success!

The wrestling bags are being embroidered, and when they are done, I will send out another notification. We also need to have ALL the singlets returned. If everyone that still has a singlet could put it aside and when the Bags come in, we will collect them then.

 

FUNDRAISER: Montville Youth Wrestling will be holding a donation based CAR WASH this Sunday, March 20th, from 10am-3:00pm at The Mohegan Firehouse on Rte 32 (next to CVS, across from Home Depot, Chilis).

We need as many wrestlers  as we can to help at this event. All help would be greatly appreciated... especially the WRESTLERS!!

Good Afternoon everyone!

It's hard to believe the season is coming to an end.  We have two very important dates for all families to keep in mind:

The Montville Youth Wrestlers will be holding a fund raiser, with the selling of wrestling magnets.  This will be held on Saturday, March 5th from 9am until 12pm at the Montville Stop & Shop.  Remember our community has always been very generous to our wrestlers, your participation is appreciated!! 

 

The next important date is for our annual end of the season banquet.  We love to celebrate the accomplishments of our wrestlers!!  This has been a fantastic year for all involved!!!  The banquet will be held at the Oakdale Firehouse on Sunday, March 13th from 6pm until 8pm.  We are asking each family to bring their favorite dish to share and a bottle of soda or juice.  Cake will be served for dessert.  At the banquet we will have a basket raffle, any baskets donated will be greatly appreciated!  The money raised will help with the cost of our recently purchased singlets.

Dear Parents;

The Youth State Wrestling Championship Tournament will be held at Hill House High School, Field House, 480 Sherman Parkway, New Haven CT 06511 on Sunday, Feb. 27th 2011.

Weigh ins for the tournament are as follows:

7:30am-8:00am for intermediate

10:00am-10:30am for novice

10:30-11:00am for middle school

All wrestlers must be present at the beginning of weigh ins and each wrestler must make weight for the weight that they qualified for, NO ALLOWANCES WILL BE GIVEN.  Each wrestler will be allowed 2 consecutive attempts to make weight and may not leave the weigh in area.  Wrestlers must weigh in wearing a competition singlet.  A WRESTLER THAT MISSES WEIGHT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE YOUTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT.

There will be a scale open from 6:45am-7:20am to check your weight.  You will not be allowed to check your weight after 8am for novice and 8:30am for middle school.

The top 4 finishers of the state championship tournament in each weight class will be eligible to advance to the New England Championship Tournament, which will be held at Lowell High School located in Lowell, MA.  If wrestlers qualify for the New England Tournament you will be required to complete a registration form, hand in a copy of the birth certificate, a copy of tier USA wrestling card (coach will have these), and pay the fee of $20.00 prior to leaving the State Championship Tournament.

A few Important Reminders:

Tonight's practice will be the last practice for the Beginner Class. (Tuesday and Thursday Classes 5:30-6:30pm)

Practice next week for the Advanced Class will be from 6:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as we prepare for The State Championship (2/27/11).

If we should have some wrestlers Qualify for New Englands by Placing in the Top 4 at The State Championship( 2/27/11), we will continue to hold practice (2 more weeks), Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 6:00pm-8:00pm, leading up to The New England Tournament (3/12/11) for Novice, and 3/13/11 for Middle School.

We are currently preparing for our End of The Year Banquet, which will be held in March, Date and Time has yet to be determined, so please continue to check your e-mails, Facebook, or this website for Updates.

Our End of The Year Wrestler Gift will be Orange Under Armour Duffle bags. The cost of these bags with the Montville Wrestling Logo and wrestlers name Embroidered is $50.00.

The Club will pay $20.00 towards these bags and we are asking the Parents to pay the balance of $30.00. Checks made out to Montville Youth Wrestling.

If you are interested in ordering a bag we need to know ASAP, by this Friday, 2/18/11.

Good Evening Parents,

Last week the Coaches had discussed with the kid's the Weight Classes for the State Qualifiers in Colchester. I want the parents to be familiar with the Weight Classes for their children. There will be NO Weight Allowance, which means that they need to weigh in at the weight they wish to wrestle at.

As an example: A Novice 65lb wrestler would need to weigh 65lb's or less (61-65). If he weighs 66lb's he will be bumped up to the 70lb weight class.

The weight that you wrestle at Qualifiers WILL be the weight you wrestle at States if you qualify.

I encourage all parents to read the "PDF" File for The Sate Qualifiers that will explain all of this. You can access this file in the following ways:

• Go to www.USAWCT.org, event schedule, scroll down to State Qualifiers-Colchester, and click on the "PDF" File.
• Under the FILES Tab of the TotalLeague Website, is the "PDF" File for State Qualifiers-Colchester.

It appears that our kids will be returning to school tomorrow, which also means that we will be having practice tomorrow. THE COACHES HAVE DECIDED TO HOLD AN ADDITIONAL PRACTICE ON FRIDAY (2/4/11) FROM 5:30-7:30pm, FOR ALL THE KIDS THAT WILL BE COMPETING THIS SUNDAY (2/6/11) AT THE NEW LONDON TOURNAMENT.

Tomorrow (Thursday 2/3/11), will be the only day to sign up for this tournament. If you fail to sign up tomorrow, you will not be allowed to participate in this tournament. Please make plans accordingly to sign up for this tournament.

Montville Youth Wrestling is currently soliciting local businesses in an effort to purchase 16 more singlets which we definitely need. To show our appreciation, we would like to send a Thank You letter along with a team picture. We would like to take a team picture at this Tuesday's practice at 6:30pm when all the kids will be there. Please try and make this practice so we can have as many kids in the picture as possible. Please remember to bring with you a "Montville Youth Wrestling T-shirt or sweatshirt. If you do not have MYW apparel, please wear something black or orange.

Dear Parents,

I would like to go over a couple things.

1. As you know, on Tuesday's and Thursday's we hold two practices on those nights. Beginners from 5:30-6:30 and advanced from 6:30-8:00. Going forward we would appreciate it if the parents and wrestlers from the advanced class(630-8) would wait in the classroom next door to the gym or in the hallway outside the gym. Our beginner wrestlers can be easily distracted and with everyone entering the gym before we finish our practice with them, it can get very loud and disrupt their practice. Advanced wrestlers should get ready outside the gym, and be ready to wrestle at 6:30.
2. Registering for Tournaments: We will have a sign-up sheet and a payment envelope, and we are asking the Parents to sign up their children for the tournament and put the payment in the envelope.  We will no longer accept wrestlers telling us they are going to the Tournament WITHOUT the parents filling out the sign-up sheet with payment. When I register our wrestlers for a Tournament, Montville Youth Wrestling is responsible for payment to the Tournament Director of that Tournament. If wrestlers are sick or just don't show up we are still being charged for that wrestler. Once they are registered, we have to pay for that wrestler.

Dear Parents,

 

MYW will be traveling to the Lisbon Central School on Monday January 10, 2011, to practice with the Griswold Youth Wrestling Club.

This practice/scrimmage will be run as an Instructional Tournament. By that I mean, all of the wrestlers will be paired or grouped by age, weight and experience.

The wrestlers will live wrestle like in a regular tournament, with timing and scoring but without the pressure of the BIG STAGE.

It is designed to be instructional! This enables our wrestlers to learn while competing.

This is a great opportunity, especially for our beginner wrestlers, but all are welcome. We encourage everyone to come to this scrimmage.

I am sending this message as a reminder. The Advanced Wrestling Class starts tomorrow, November 16, 2010 at Fair Oaks School from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Beginners will start the Monday after Thanksgiving 11/29/2010, at Fair Oaks School from 6:00pm-7:30pm.

Proper attire is required on the mats. Shorts or sweatpants( No Zippers), t-shirt, head gear, wrestling shoes( to be worn ONLY on the mats...not outside) and a water bottle.

Practice will start promptly at 6:00, so please be ready to wrestle. Head gear will be worn at ALL times when you are on the mat.

The coaches and I are looking forward to another great season of Wrestling!

Good Morning Everyone,

We are asking all wrestlers and parents to please use the front door at Fair Oaks School for entering and exiting practice. We have unrolled another mat for practice and there is no room to use the side door. We will be able to use the classroom next door to the gym to place your coats, bags,etc... and change into your wrestling shoes. If the classroom is being used we will have chairs in the hallway to use.

PAYMENTS FOR TOURNAMENTS

Parents, if we could have payment for the tournaments no later than the close of practice on Thursday. I register the kids for the tournament right after practice on Thursday night. If you would like to bring in payment earlier that's fine, but Thursday is the deadline.

Good Evening Everyone,

We had an incident today at the Southington Tournament where one of our wrestlers was allowed to wrestle without a coach in the corner. This should never have happened, and part of the problem was my lack of communication to our new wrestlers and parents, and for that I apologize. I would like to take this opportunity to inform and educate the parents that our wrestlers should ALWAYS have a coach in their corner. If for some reason your son/daughter is next to wrestle and a coach is not available, the wrestler should communicate to the referee that they do not have a coach. At that point, someone at the scores table will use the paging system, and  request a Montville coach to a specific mat. If a coach is still unavailable( coaching other matches), the scores table may jump to the next bout and then come back to your son/daughters match. The next available coach will get to that mat ASAP and coach your son/daughter. Under no circumstances should anyone wrestle without a coach... EVER!

We will communicate this message to all the wrestlers this week in practice. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Remember this simple rule: NO COACH, NO WRESTLING!

COMMUNICATION MESSAGE

Hello everyone,

I would like to explain how I will be communicating with everyone going forward. I will only be using the following:

• I will be using the Montville Youth Wrestling website: http://totalleague.com/mywrestling
• I will be using e-mail
• I will be using the white erase board in the gym( this is mainly a reminder board)

When I post the web site with any new information, I will also be sending out an e-mail with that same information. It is very difficult to get information out to everyone before or after practice because not everyone comes in the gym or might leave early etc...

If you visit the web site but do not receive my e-mails, please let me know.

Please visit the web site regularly and check your e-mails. I will try to post a header in the e-mail letting you know that it is related to wrestling... so you don't delete e-mails from totalleague.

The schedule seems to be working well and we don't anticipate any other major changes to the schedule. Hope this helps!
