Welcome back Grapplers to a new and exciting season.
Where do I start.....How about our Grapplers???? Many of you are coming out of other sports such as football, cheer leading, Jiu Jitsu . Judo and Volleyball. Just to return to do battle in the mat room. I welcome all of you back for a fun, sweaty, out of breath, teary eyed, bumps, bruises and bloody season. Get ready to turn on your "mental toughness" buttons. It's going to get tough and hard. But some of you have already "been there" and "done that" and some of you will be leaders that will demonstrate that although tough and hard.... you will see some light out of that tunnel.
I want to thank all of our board members, coaches, parents and all those who have volunteered to jump start our season. Thank you for participating and celebrating with us at the awards ceremony. We can't forget our Top Wrestler of The Year for the 2010/2011 season.....Mr. Jared Abellera. Congratulations!!! I want to welcome back Coach Ernesto Nunez and would like everyone to give a warm welcome to our assist coaches Martin Noftziger and Manny Borrego. Please welcome all coaches who have a great wealth of wrestling knowledge to bring to team.
Some of the changes this season will include two classes. An advanced and a beginner’s class. Once we get a head count of wrestlers, we can determine the days of the classes. Beginners will consist of children from 5 to 8 year of age. Advance ages 9 to 14 years of age. Practices will be on Monday-Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
There will also be some fund raising activities in the near future. As we enter this season, the Jefferson Union School District is facing some tough budget cuts that will also affect our youth wrestling club. Since our inception we have basically ridden on the TN Wrestling coat tails but that has changed due to our current economy.
The ride may have some bumps in the beginning but as Dan Gable has said before, "Once you have wrestled, everything in life is easy."
