The P.G. Hitmen started the 2011 season with a thrilling overtime win over the Red Knights. The Hitmen scored on the first play of the game with a 65 yard TD from quarterback Ryan Carter to favorite receiver Marty Spruce. This was followed by another 6 yard strike from Carter to Spruce to put the Hitmen up 13-0 late in the second half. An interception run back for a touchdown by linebacker Jacques Taylor was called back for a roughing the passer penalty and the Knights took the ball in to close the score to 13-7 at the half. The Knights added another touchdown in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 13-13. A tipped pass by D lineman Bruce Jones was caught by fellow D lineman Darius Mcghee who took it in for a score to put the Hitmen up 20-13. The Knights came back to score again to tie the game at 20-20. Late in the game on a Knights interception, Marty Spruce raced 75 yards to stop the game winning touchdown. With the Knights on the Hitmen 15 with first and goal the Hitmen defense stiffened resulting in an incomplete pass and three consecutive sacks by D linemen Bruce Jones and Jamill Whitehead forcing the game into overtime. The Hitmen scored on their first possesion in overtime as Carter hit receiver Jamerrill Claiborne on a 10 yard strike for his third touchdown pass of the day. Kicker Yucco Etienne hit his third extra point of the day to give the Hitmen a 27-20 lead. The Hitmen defense again rose to the occasion holding the Knights out of the end zone, with Linebacker Antwon Jones knocking away the final pass to presrve the victory. The Hitmen will face league powerhouse Miller Lite at 10:30 next Saturday at Marty Snook Park.
