2011 PVBC 18's College Showcase Team Tryouts

2011 18’s College Showcase Team Tryouts

Date:       Saturday September 18, 2010 and

               Sunday, September 19, 2010

PJVBC is proud to announce tryouts for their 18’s College Showcase Team!  This team will be specifically geared towards increasing player visibility and assisting in recruiting efforts, by attending specific college recruiting showcases, multiple 2—3 day National USAV JO’s tournaments and gapping the communication void between player’s families and college volleyball programs.

This team’s season will run between December 2010 and April 3, 2011, allowing high school seniors to have the best of both worlds—volleyball and being able to participate in high school senior activities without over-extension.

Tournaments include:  Qwest for Excellence (NC), Monument City (VA), MAPL (VA), Shamrock Festival (VA), Big South National Qualifier (GA) and multiple college showcases in the VA, NC, Ohio Valley Region area.

2009 PJVBC Tryouts Announcement

The Peninsula Juniors Volleyball Club is pleased to announce our tryout information for our 2009 -2010 Junior Olympic Volleyball Season!

When:     Sunday, November 22, 2009

Where:    Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center, Newport News, VA

Times:    Girl's 15's tryouts - 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

                 Girl's 16's tryouts - 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

                 Girl's 17's tryouts - 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

                 Girl's 18's tryouts - 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

                 Boy's team tryouts - 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Cost:       Absolutely Free - keep your wallets at home, PJVBC does NOT charge for tryouts

Our tryouts are at Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center, which is a CLOSED facility.  If you are planning on attending tryouts, please contact me at peninsulajuniorsvball@gmail.com, so that I may get you on the access list for the 22nd.

Parents:  I ask that you remain present for the paperwork signing and the in-briefing for your daughter/son which are for about 15 - 20 minutes in the beginning of the tryouts, in the upstairs classrooms.  When we move our kids to the two courts downstairs, there is NO room for anyone to sit and watch, so we do ask that you either remain in the lobby or come back for your player at the end of tryouts.  Please do NOT come into the Fitness area.  Last year we had issues with parents sitting on Fitness equipment and disrupting the Riverside members who were there working out.  We are blessed to have such a wonderful facility for our players, but need to be mindful and respectful of the other members who utilize our facility, as well.  There will be NO changing this rule.

Our Club

The Peninsula Juniors Volleyball Club was founded in 2007 by my good friend Jackie Bailey and myself because we wanted to give athletes on the Peninsula another choice for USAV JO's club volleyball.  We started out with one 17'sU team the first year and have grown to four teams in four years!  Our coaches are ex-college players (U of Delaware, University of Virginia and Virginia Tech, just to name a few) and have been coaching high school level or higher on the Peninsula and abroad.

Our coaches lineup this year!

15's - Jackie Bailey (U of Delaware Volleyball LB/DS and Hampton Roads Academy Girl's JV Coach) and Mindy Sumner (UVa Volleyball MB and Assistant Coach of York JV/Varsity Volleyball)

16's - Gail Clinch (Assistant Coach for Christopher Newport University Lady Captains volleyball)

17's - Kelly Dreyfuss (Girls Head Coach, York High School and Director of PJVBC) and John Thomas (Boys Varsity Coach at Peninsula Catholic High School and current Assistant Coach for York Girl's Varsity Volleyball)

18's - Cassie Jefferies (Coach and player for James Madison University Women's Club team and volleyball standout at Warwick High School)

Boy's Coach - Chris Thomas (USAV open player and volunteer coach for PJVBC in 2009 and at York High School)

Summer Camps

PJVBC goes above and beyond the call by taking a group of our club kids each year to the University of Delaware Overnight Summer Volleyball Camp.   We transport  our players, keep an eye on them while they are there, then transport them home.  We coaches also use this learning experience to pick the brain of U of D Head Coach Bonnie Kenny, as well as the other D1, D2 and D3 coaches that, along with us, volunteer our time to help our college volleyball players of tomorrow!  Please see our Photos tab for pictures from this year's camp!  We also work very closely with other college coaches in the area (JMU/NSU/CNU) and make arrangements for our kids to attend many local volleyball camps in the area.

College Recruiting

We believe at PJVBC that every kid who has the skill, the heart and the commitment can play college volleyball.  Whether it's at the D1, D2 or D3 level, we work to contact college coaches and inform them about our upcoming players.

USAV Memberships via WEBPOINT

You MUST sign up for a USA Volleyball membership PRIOR to coming out to tryouts on the 22nd.  For more information, please visit:

http://www.odrvb.org

Click on the "JUNIORS" link, then "JUNIORS HOME".  There is a WEBPOINT link for returning players (if you played at any club last year) or for new players (if you did not play last year).  Please follow the directions to sign up for your membership and print out your membership card.  You must bring that to tryouts!

Come and see what we are all about on the 22nd of November.  You will not be disappointed.

PJVBC College Night at York High School - June 3, 2009!

Our first annual College Night will be held tonight, Wednesday June 3, 2009 at the York High School KIVA room in Yorktown, VA.  We will have two guest speakers!

17's Excel at the Shamrock Festival in Roanoke

Congratulations to the 17's Onipa'a team for a job well done at the 2009 Shamrock Festival this past weekend in Roanoke.  We went 4-0 in our 8:00 p.m. wave to move onto the Diamond Bracket, beating out a local hometown rival in the process.  I am very glad that our girls got to see the differing levels of play in the numerous teams that participated this year.

Alex Kortenhoeven also participated and did extremely well at the College Showcase on Friday night.  We are all so proud of her!

Next stop for both teams is the Revolutionary Rumble next week in Williamsburg!  Practice hard girls, we want to have a good showing next week!
