ABOUT OUR VOLLEYBALL CLUB

Q-Volleyball was co-founded by Coach Quynh Nguyen and Coach Darrell Conley in 2006. Coach Quynh grew up in Central Florida and became interested in volleyball in 6th grade while attending Meadowbrook Middle School. Coach Quynh went on to play at Evans High School for 4 years. While attending Valencia Community College, he began his coaching career as an intern to the men’s and woman’s basketball program as part of a Sports Psychology class. At age 21, Coach Quynh landed his first volleyball coaching job at The First Academy as the JV coach. He would go on to coach the girls’ Varsity Basketball team as the Assistant Varsity Coach, winning a State Title that year. After coaching at TFA, Quynh served as assistant Varsity Coach at Bishop Moore High School, finishing as State runners up that year. The next season, he went to Winter Park High School as the JV and Assistant Varsity Coach. Eight years ago the Head Varsity Coaching position opened up at The Master’s Academy. Quynh accepted and developed a very successful volleyball program covering grades 4th through 12th. Coach Quynh’s love for volleyball led him to the Orlando Volleyball Academy where he became a USAV Coach for 8 years. During that time, he was voted OVA Male Coach of the Year for the 2005 club season.

Coach Conley grew up in a small town in Oregon, (population 640), where he joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from High School in 1979. While on active duty, he became interested in volleyball in 1984 while playing intramurals. From 1985 – 1991, Conley played on several command teams competing in the Northern European Championships 3 years in a row. From 1988 – 1990, he played on the Welsh-American team which played throughout the United Kingdom. This experience was what first got him thinking about a possible future in coaching. In 1990, Conley was transferred to Nova Scotia Canada on an exchange tour where he tried out and made the Canadian Command Team. After the coach was transferred mid way through the season, Coach Conley took the opportunity and became the player/coach for the rest of the season. During that tour, Coach Conley coached both the men’s and woman’s team to two Eastern Seaboard Championships qualifying for Canadian Nationals. In 1993, Coach Conley was transferred to Orlando, Florida, where he coached at Jackson Heights Middle School and Lawton Chiles Middle School. For the last 6 seasons, Coach Conley has been on Coach Quynh’s coaching staff at The Master’s Academy.

Q-Volleyball is entering our fourth year specializing in the development of the complete volleyball athlete. We are committed to providing quality, (volleyball specific), physical training to young student-athletes in the local Orlando area to maximize their volleyball potential. We offer a unique volleyball training program for players who want to elevate their athleticism to elevate their game. Our goal, along with your hard work, is to develop and improve your:

  • Core and Ab Strength
  • Volleyball Speed, Quickness, and Agility
  • Balance and Coordination
  • Reaction Time
  • Vertical Jump,
  • Muscle Strength and Power Development
  • Muscle Endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Explosive Power
  • Overall Aerobic and Anaerobic Conditioning
  • Overall Volleyball Skills

We compete in local area AAU tournaments as Club Dunamis from January – May using the tournaments as the yard stick for measuring our physical developments and improvements. There are no tryouts for specific teams as that is not our program’s main focus. We formulate teams from those players who are available. Sometimes athletes are asked to play at their age level and other times they are asked to play up to a higher level. In either case, we enter the teams to compete.

Last year, our Club Dunamis teams competed very well in the AAU tournaments around Central Florida. Our 14’s ended the season playing in the Gold Division Playoff of the AAU Regional finishing in the top 16. In the Winter Classic, our 12’s finished 5th in the Gold Division while the 15’s and 16’s finished tied for 9th in the Gold Division, and the 18’s finished tied for 3rd in the Gold Division.

Dunamis: a Greek word meaning “Strength Power” and “Virtuous Might.”
