SWOSSAA Results
Feb.16 - Scits
It was a tough day for the Colts at SWOSSAA as both Adam Bruno and Kaung Zaw had to withdraw due to injuries while some other wrestlers had some close matches go the wrong way. Both Megan Dunn and Josh Core came very close to earning a berth to Ofsaa with bronze medals. Aaron McMillan used perfect technique to win his way to Ofsaa with a well deserved gold medal and SWOSSAA Championship. Krystal Adair showed her determined attitude on her way to her first Ofsaa berth overcoming a tough loss in the finals to come back and dominate the challenge match with a quick pin of her opponent. The match of the day went to Kelsey Prior as she defeated the 2011 Ofsaa Silver Medalist to win her first SWOSSAA title in a very exciting match. Kelsey also earned the "Gold Cup" with her win as she fought to not give up a point for over a minute before turning her opponent for the win. Joelle Vanderslagt finished up her strong high school rookie season with an impressive 4th place finish in her first SWOSSAA. (0 comments)
COLT GIRLS WIN LSSAA!!!! BOYS SECOND...MISS OVERALL BY 4 POINTS!!!
It was a historic day at the LSSAA 2012 Championships for the Colt Wrestling team. The Girls team won their first ever overall title and the boys finished second with the Overall team title just 4 points away for the Colts. This is remarkable result considering that the winning team at Northern entered 20 more wrestlers than the St.Clair team. St.Clair qualified a record 19 wrestlers for the SWOSSAA Championships this week. The team shattered the previous school mark with 8 gold medalists on the day. Winning gold were Adam Bruno, Aaron McMillan, Josh Core, Mitch Hodgins, Krystal Adair, Megan Dunn, Kelsey Prior, and Payton Butler. Winning silver medals included Jordan Honsinger, Kaung Zaw, Zak Vaillancourt, and Andrew Percival. Winning bronze were Christen Hignett, Sereena Nahmabin, and Joelle Vanderslagt. Also qualifying for SWOSSAA included Chace Plain, Chase Bressette, Kim Rankin, and Marshall Allen.
The winner of the "Gold Cup" was Krystal Adair for her determined mindset and focus on the day. (0 comments)
PROVINCIALS RESULTS
Feb.3/4/5 - St.Catherines
It was a tough couple of days of wrestling, but a few St.Clair wrestlers came away with some decent results from the Ontario Cadet/Juvenile Championships at Brock University. Aaron McMillan led the way with a silver medal losing a very close final match. This qualifes Aaron for the Ontario team for the upcoming National Championships in New Brunswick in April. Kelsey Prior secured an Ontario Winter Games berth with a 5th place finish. She will represent Southwest Ontario at the games alongside Jordan Honsinger, Joelle Vanderslagt and Chase Bressette. Joelle and Chase also finished top 6 at the Provincials.
The winner of the "Gold Cup" was Joelle "cement-job" Vanderslagt. (0 comments)
Weight Cutting Tips
I just re-read the article I was going to post and there were some things on there I didn't like or agree with so I am giving you my advice instead. Basically, you must NOT stop eating at all until the day of the weigh-in. If you have to starve yourself to make the weight, then you can't go to that weight. To wrestle your best, you must not deprive your body of the nutrients you need that you can only get from food or a good meal replacement shake(MRP). MRP's are a great way to still get the nutrients you need while minimizing the calories going in. For a water cut, the only true way to not dangerously dehydrate your body is to sweat out the fluids just before weigh-ins but only in moderate amounts. Basically you are looking for 1.5 kilos or less in this circumstance. Anything more than that, and I don't want you to cut, I would rather you wrestle up as it just means you waited too long to make the weight drop. A safe cut is only water over the last few hours. To be successful, you must start with a better meal arrangement and diet long before a cut is needed. This is the best way to cut weight and move to a lower weight class for championship season if that is the goal. A high level of fluid intake the week before the cut is vital and then only cut down on the amount of water within 24 hours of the weigh-in. In the last 18 hours, cut the water intake in half and then over the last 3-6 hours, cut the water completely. This is also the time period you would sweat out the water for the weight loss. No earlier. Anything before this time is not safe and will not be done on this team. If you have any questions, see me for clarification. (0 comments)

SARNIA INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Jan 21 - S.C.S.S.
The St.Clair Wrestling team had a great showing as the home team at the annual Invitational held at St.Clair. The Colts finished 3rd overall out of 33 teams missing first by only 3 points. This was the best result in many years for the team. Individually, the squad was led by Aaron McMillan who had two gold medals winning both his weight class and the one above. Rookie Noel Sullivan also had a great day winning gold. Andrew Percival also won a gold medal in a weight where St.Clair wrestlers finished 1-2-3. Winning silver were Elijah Wright, Joelle Vanderslagt, and Arlene VanReenen. Winning bronze included Zak Vaillancourt, Mitch Hodgins, Christen Hignett, and Kaung Zaw. Also scoring team points with 4th place finishes were Matt Rankin, Megan Dunn, and Kelsey Prior.
The first ever winner of the "Gold Cup" was Christen Hignett for her remarkable run all the way through the consolation side to win Bronze. This new award will be presented to a St.Clair wrestler after each tournament to recognize some sort of special performance or result. (0 comments)
TEAM BONDING NIGHT - JAN 14 - STING GAME
We will be having a team bonding night on Saturday January 14th. We will be meeting for dinner and then going to the Sting game. We are NOT wrestling in Windsor that day as previously scheduled. Remember to make sure to get your sponsorship money in before Friday the 13th so your Sting ticket is free. Details on when and where for dinner will be announced at practice. This should be a fun night so try to make plans to attend.
We will be meeting for dinner at 530 pm and then walking/driving over to the Arena for the game for 7pm. Dinner will be at Norm's beside the movie theatre. Tickets for the game will be handed out at dinner. If you can't make dinner, have someone pick up your ticket from me and then you can text them when you arrive to pick up the ticket. (0 comments)
INTERVAL TRAINING REMINDER
This is a reminder to do your cardio sessions as mentioned at the last camp practice. You are to hook up with one or two of your teammates and do at least 3 interval training sessions during this last week off. Remember that these should not exceed 30 minutes which would include at least 5-10 minutes for your warm-up and warm-down. So, max of 20-25 minutes of intense interval training. Also remember to have your heart rate hit its highest level at least 7-10 times during your intervals and make sure your time slots are shorter for the lower intensity intervals. (0 comments)
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY WRESTLING CAMP
The Holiday Camp will run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 11am until 3pm. We will probably finish before 3 pm each day but we have the gym booked until 3 each day. Please bring a lunch each day as we will be having a break in the middle to eat lunch and relax for a bit. Also bring shower items as you will be given time to shower each day and still be done before 3 pm. Use the doors by the track to enter and exit the school. Bring an extra shirt each day so you can change your shirt each session. Plan to arrive promptly at 11 am each day. On the Friday, we may have an open mat session if there is enough interest. We would need to have at least 10 kids interested in this as we will be rolling up the mats for the rest of the holiday break after this session. (0 comments)
